Un copac ornamental de dimensiuni medii, cu o coroană densă și rotundă. Arborele crește, de obicei, între 8 și 15 m înălțime, dar poate ajunge la aproximativ 18 m în cazuri excepționale. Crengile tinere sunt brune lucioase și ușor păroase, dar devin curând goale. Scoarța veche este gri-maronie și se desprinde în plăci mici, lăsând la vedere scoarța inferioară portocalie.
