Arbore mic, cu coroana columnară-piramidală în primii ani, care în cele din urmă devine rotundă. Trunchiul cenușiu este neted, iar crengile sunt de culoare maro până la brun-roșiatic. Frunzele ovoidale până la larg eliptice se remarcă prin culoarea galben-aurie. Deosebit de galben intens primăvara, aceasta poate să se retragă spre verde în timpul verii. Frunza crețoasă, ușor aspră, este presată de creangă. Înainte de apariția frunzelor, apare inflorescența, care este urmată de nuci înaripate. Există probabil mai multe clone de "Wredei" în circulație. Acestea diferă în privința portului: de la piramidal la rotund. Acest arbore își are originea ca sport în 'Dampieri', cu care 'Wredei' seamănă cel mai mult. Este unul dintre cei mai distincți ulmi care încă se mai folosesc în mod regulat.
