Ulm puternic vertical, care este inițial columnar, dar mai târziu devine oval. Formează o ramură principală clară. Arborele are o coroană densă și ușor de gafat. Trunchiul la arborii tineri este neted și gri-argintiu, devenind mai târziu canelat negru. Trunchiurile bătrâne sunt bine canelate. Crengile tinere sunt brune, ușor păroase și prezintă lenticule. Crengile mai târzii devin goale și gri-maronii. Frunzele sunt mai mari decât cele ale arborelui "Lobel" și se îngălbenesc toamna. Este foarte rezistent la vânt (de mare) și are o rezistență ridicată la boli. Cercetările au arătat că 'Clusius' este destul de rezistent la boala olandeză a ulmului. Acest ulm este potrivit pentru utilizarea în zonele urbane, dar și în locurile unde bate mult vântul.
