Copac robust, cu un trunchi drept și greu. La arborii tineri, trunchiul crește drept mort până în vârf, cu o ramificație rigidă și dreaptă. Mai târziu, se dezvoltă câteva ramuri drepte și verticale ale trunchiului, lărgind copacul. Crenguțele tinere sunt gri-verzui și cu părul păros, dar în curând devin goale și verzi. Frunzele sunt mai mult sau mai puțin rotunde, de culoare verde închis mat, cu o parte inferioară densă și albă-feliată caracteristică.
