Arbore mare, cu o coroană clar mai subțire decât alte specii și cultivare de tei. Arborele ajunge la aproximativ 15 m înălțime și 6 m lățime. Crengile tinere sunt roșii, iar scoarța veche este maro închis și canelată. Frunzele de formă grațioasă, larg ovoidale, au baza crestată și vârful lung și ascuțit. Marginea frunzei este fin zimțată. Suprafața superioară a frunzelor este verde închis lucios, iar cea inferioară este albă-feliată și maro deschis la frunzele tinere. În iulie apar florile parfumate de culoare crem, grupate câte 10 până la 20 în corimbi de aproximativ 8 cm lungime. Acestea sunt urmate de fructe ovoidale de culoare maro-feliată.
