Arbore de talie medie remarcabil care, la o înălțime de 8-10 m, rămâne net mai mic decât specia. Coroana destul de dens ramificată este larg ovoidală până la rotundă. Crengile anuale și bienale sunt de un roșu-portocaliu izbitor. Acest lucru este deosebit de frapant în timpul iernii. Scoarța veche este asemănătoare cu cea a speciei; maro închis și canelată.
