Un vechi soi de tei american despre care se credea inițial că este un hibrid. Coroana este liberă, largă și ovoidală până la rotundă. Copacii tineri au încă o scoarță netedă de culoare gri, dar la exemplarele mai bătrâne aceasta este regulată și puțin adânc canelată. Crengile tinere sunt netede, de culoare verde măsliniu și adesea brun-roșcate pe partea însorită și în partea superioară. Crenguțele și ramurile sunt adesea ușor căzute. Frunzele sunt remarcabil de mari și au vârful brusc ascuțit. Baza frunzei este în formă de inimă oblică, iar marginea frunzei este grosier zimțată. Pe partea superioară, frunza este verde închis, iar pe partea inferioară verde deschis, cu peri tomentoși gri deschis.
