Arbore solitar cu creștere rapidă, cu o coroană semi-deschisă în formă de evantai pe un trunchi scurt. Scoarța este netedă și gri închis, cu lenticeli. Crenguțele sunt verde măsliniu, cu păr catifelat și cu mici lenticule albicioase. În al doilea an, acestea devin gri-maronii. Frunzele impare-pinnate sunt formate din 5 - 9 foliole opuse și au o lungime de 20 - 35 cm. Fiecare frunză este ovoidă cu vârful ascuțit, are o lungime de 5 - 12 cm și un peduncul scurt.
