Arbust mare până la copac mic, cu crenguțe care depășesc. Scoarța aproape neagră este ușor canelată mai târziu. Crenguțele sunt lucioase și de culoare roșu-maroniu închis. Frunza ovală îngustă și solzoasă este de culoare verde strălucitor și are o bază semischelettică. Pe crengile tinere, frunza este ovală și are o lățime de aproximativ 0,4 - 0,5 cm, iar pe ramurile mai bătrâne este mult mai mică, de aproximativ 0,1 cm. Florile mici, de culoare roz pal, apar în ciorchini denși de 4 - 6 cm lungime. Petalele cad repede, dar cele 4 stamine rămân pentru o perioadă lungă de timp.
