Arbust mare până la copac mic, cu crenguțe care depășesc. Scoarța brună este ușor canelată și se prezintă sub formă de scuame în perioada ulterioară. Crenguțele tinere sunt galben-verzi, devenind roșu-violet în al doilea an. Frunzele sunt de culoare verde-închis până la albastru-verzui și au baza semischelettică. Pe crengile tinere, frunzele sunt ovale și au o lungime de 0,4 cm, iar pe ramurile mai bătrâne sunt triunghiulare și au o lungime de 0,1 cm. Florile mici, de culoare roz, apar în ciorchini denși, lungi de 3 - 10 cm. Petalele cad repede, dar cele 5 stamine rămân pentru o perioadă lungă de timp. Înflorirea este urmată de fructe mici de cutie care conțin multe semințe. Acest Tamarix este extrem de potrivit pentru zonele de coastă, dar este ușor sensibil la îngheț.
