A luat naștere ca un hibrid între S. aria și S. aucuparia. Este un arbust mare sau un copac mic, cu o creștere lentă și o coroană foarte compactă. Forma coroanei este ovală, dar se lărgește mai târziu, iar ramurile sunt groase și rigide, cu muguri de frunze cu păr alb. Pe jumătatea inferioară, frunza verde are 1 - 4 perechi de foliole, iar frunza superioară este lobată descrescător. Pe partea inferioară, frunzele sunt gri păroase. Corimbii de flori au un diametru de aproximativ 10 cm, iar florile individuale au un diametru de aproximativ 1 cm. Tulpinile florilor sunt păroase. La sfârșitul verii, apar fructele roșii, care variază în mărime. Acestea sunt ovoidale sau în formă de bilă, cu un diametru de 1 - 1,4 cm. 'Fastigiata' trebuie plantată într-un loc protejat de vânt.
