'Korbel KT' este un copac mare care, în ciuda dimensiunilor sale, crește "doar" la jumătate din înălțimea speciei Sequoia sempervirens. Cea mai izbitoare diferență față de specie este forma mai îngustă a coroanei; 'Korbel KT' are o coroană densă, columnară. Vârfurile ramurilor laterale inferioare sunt orientate în sus. În 1966, au fost tăiați, înregistrați și înrădăcinați, în vederea unui studiu, butași din șase arbori sălbatici doborâți lângă Korbel, California. În 1970, s-a constatat că șase dintre acești butași prezentau o formă de creștere anormală; toți cei șase butași fuseseră tăiați dintr-o singură ramură (mutantă) din vârful unuia dintre arbori. Toate celelalte butași tăiați din (alte părți ale) acestui copac nu prezentau această formă aberantă. După studii suplimentare, aceste șase plante aberante au fost comercializate în 1983. Inițial, ca pom de Crăciun alternativ. Aplicabil ca solitar în parcuri și grădini mari.
