Un cultivar de Q. rubra asemănător cu Q. velutina. Formează un arbore înalt, cu trunchiul bine distanțat și scoarță netedă de culoare gri închis. Scoarța interioară este de un galben-portocaliu izbitor. Crenguțele tinere sunt de culoare verde măsliniu spre maro, iar mai târziu maro-roșcat și cu părul păros. Se remarcă mugurii mari, de până la 12 mm, cu părul cenușiu. Frunzele sunt lungi, ovoidale sau ovoidale inversate, adânc lobate și de culoare verde închis. Lobii sunt dințoși.
