Acest hibrid între Q. palustris și Q. phellos se transformă într-un arbore de dimensiuni medii sau mari. Coroana deschisă este rotundă și atinge o înălțime de 10-15 m, uneori puțin mai mare. Frunzele lanceolate sunt foarte variabil lobate. În același copac pot fi prezente atât frunze întregi, cât și frunze lobate. Frunzele lobate au între 1 și 4 lobi ascuțiți, orientați în față, pe fiecare parte. Acestea sunt de un verde închis lucios. Ghindele ovoidale, mari de aproximativ 1 cm, sunt cuprinse până la o treime în cupa, care este acoperită de solzi adiacenți. Acest hibrid a fost găsit pentru prima dată în cultură în Germania,la sfârșitul secolului al XIX-lea. Ulterior, plantele acestui hibrid au fost găsite și în locuri unde se suprapuneau arealul natural al celor două specii parentale.
