Arbore plângător cu creștere largă, cu ramuri arcuite, cu crengi subțiri care cresc direct în jos. Înălțimea este de aproximativ 5 - 6 m, iar copacul crește adesea la fel de lat. Scoarța este gri argintiu, iar crengile sunt de un gri mai deschis. Mai ales crengile tinere sunt ușor păroase. Crenguțele au spini neregulate. Frunzele de formă eliptică îngustă până la lanceolată sunt de culoare alb-cenușie, mai târziu verde-cenușie și asemănătoare cu pâsla. Fața inferioară rămâne alb-cenușie și aproape goală. Frunzele amintesc puternic de frunzele de salcie (salicifolia = frunză de salcie) și rămân pe copac până toamna târziu. Florile de culoare alb-crem sunt dispuse în corymburi de 6-8 împreună și apar în același timp cu frunzele. Ele nu sunt foarte vizibile printre frunzele gri-argintiu. Are puține cerințe față de sol. Tolerează seceta. Crește mai plângător decât specia și, prin urmare, este mai frecvent utilizat.
