Face parte dintre cei mai cunoscuți și mai larg utilizați cireși ornamentali japonezi. Formează o coroană lată în formă de vază care se extinde ușor cu ramuri în exces la maturitate. Înălțime 8 - 10 m, lățime 5 - 8 m. Scoarța netedă este de culoare gri-maronie, iar crengile de culoare brun-roșiatică. Frunzele tinere sunt de culoarea bronzului și apar simultan cu înflorirea. În timpul verii, devine verde închis cu partea inferioară ușor verde-albastră. Culoarea de toamnă este galbenă spre portocaliu. Frunzele eliptice au vârful ascuțit și lung, iar marginea frunzei este uneori dublu zimțată. Înflorește abundent de la sfârșitul lunii aprilie până la începutul lunii mai, cu flori duble de culoare roz pur. Acestea au un diametru de 3,5 - 4 cm și sunt dispuse în ciorchini denși de 2 - 5 împreună. 'Kanzan' formează doar rareori fructe. Pentru parcuri, grădini publice, alei și străzi. Nu tolerează solul umed.
