Arbore mic, cu ramuri întinse și coroană sferică aplatizată. Înălțime 5 - 10 m. Scoarța este profund canelată, iar crengile tinere sunt netede și verzi. Frunzele subțiri, de culoare verde închis, sunt ovale late și au o lungime de 5 - 10 cm. Este ascuțită și are marginea frunzei dublu zimțată. Partea inferioară este verde deschis.
