A fost selecționat de Robert de Belder în jurul anului 1965 la pepiniera cu același nume din fosta Iugoslavie. Crește mai încet decât specia și are o creștere oarecum încâlcită. În cele din urmă, copacul va rămâne semnificativ mai mic decât specia, cu o coroană rotundă neregulată. Frunzele cu lobuli de mână au o dimensiune de aproximativ 20 cm, cu lobi relativ înguste. Când se desfac, frunzele sunt de un verde strălucitor, dar în timpul sezonului se transformă în bronz-violet cu nervuri mai întunecate. Toamna, frunzele devin roșu-vin închis. Deși platanii tolerează foarte bine pavajul, "Mirkovec" este ceva mai puțin potrivit ca arbore stradal din cauza coroanei sale largi și neregulate. Tolerează tăierea, chiar și în lemnul bătrân.
