Un conifer cu creștere rapidă, cu o creștere verticală îngustă, cu ramificații orizontale mai târziu. Dacă arborele este liber, ramurile vor rămâne pline până jos. Lățimea 4,5 - 7 m. Forma de creștere este similară cu cea a P. cembra, dar se diferențiază net prin acele mai puțin rigide și de culoare verde-cenușie ale P. peuce. Scoarța netedă este brun-cenușie și se desprinde ulterior în solzi. Crenguțele tinere sunt la început de culoare verde lucios, devenind mai târziu gri-maronii. La vârfuri, acele de culoare verde-cenușie și destul de groase sunt dispuse în mănunchiuri de câte cinci. Aceste mănunchiuri sunt distribuite radial pe crenguțe. Conurile cilindrice sunt răspândite sau căzătoare și au o lungime de 8 - 15 cm și o lățime de 2 - 3 cm. Ele se află singure sau în grupuri. Necesită o locație însorită și este insensibil la făinare.
