Frumos copac dens ramificat până la aproximativ 8 m înălțime. Coroana este ovoidală până la ovală îngustă și rămâne zveltă chiar și la bătrânețe. Scoarța veche și groasă este gri-maronie și adânc canelată, lăsând la vedere scoarța inferioară galben-maronie deschisă. Ca și în cazul speciei, vârfurile acelor rigide, lucioase, de culoare verde închis, sunt curbate spre crengi, ceea ce este vizibil mai ales la lăstarii tineri. Conurile sunt dispuse în spirale de două sau trei pe tulpini scurte. Acestea sunt de culoare verde închis până la albastru-violet, dar devin maro deschis opac până la gri la maturitate. O formă atractivă, mai degrabă subțire, care este potrivită și pentru utilizare în grădini. Are puține cerințe față de sol, poate crește în soluri calcaroase și tolerează vântul.
