Pinus flexilis este un arbore de dimensiuni medii (10 - 15 m) originar din vestul și sud-vestul Americii de Nord. Crengile tinere sunt foarte flexibile, la care se referă și numele speciei. Acele sunt întotdeauna dispuse împreună în mănunchiuri de cinci ace. Acele au o lungime de până la 10 cm și sunt de culoare verde închis până la albastru verzui. De asemenea, la "Vanderwolf's Pyramid", acele sunt de culoare verde-albastru închis. Mai frapant la acest cultivar este obiceiul său de creștere. În ciuda faptului că ramificarea ramurilor laterale este destul de orizontală, acest soi crește în formă de piramidă îngustă.
