Mic, arbust sferic, cu ramificații oarecum încâlcite, dense. Este altoit ca formă sferică pe o tulpină înaltă și ajunge apoi la o înălțime de aproximativ 3,5 m. Crengile tinere sunt verzi, iar scoarța mai bătrână este brun-cenușie și are caneluri regulate. Frunza este ovoidală largă până la formă de inimă și este doar ușor lobată, doar uneori mai adâncă la bază. Cu o lungime de aproximativ 7 cm, este semnificativ mai mică decât cea a speciei.
