Malus "Veitch's Scarlet", considerat uneori un soi de Malus yunnanensis, este un arbore mic, cu o înălțime de până la 6 m. Arborele are un port zvelt, iar coroana va crește în cele din urmă la jumătate din lățimea și înălțimea sa. Frunzele sunt mai mult sau mai puțin în formă de inimă, cu șase sau șapte perechi de lobi superficiali pe marginea frunzei și nervuri destul de adânci.
