Arbore de talie medie, cu coroana largă, piramidală, în cele din urmă aproape rotundă, până la aproximativ 12 m. Crengile tinere sunt roșiatice și cu părul dens de culoare gri-argintiu. Scoarța mai bătrână este brun-cenușie și netedă. Doar la arborii mai bătrâni scoarța se desprinde în foițe subțiri la baza trunchiului.
