Arbore mic, cu o formă de coroană destul de îngustă, ceea ce îl face deosebit de popular ca arbore stradal. Crengile și trunchiul sunt goale și de culoare maro închis. Frunzele răsar de culoare verde deschis, dar devin verde-oliv în timpul verii. Pe partea inferioară, frunzele tinere sunt ușor păroase. Malus baccata începe să înflorească spre sfârșitul lunii aprilie. Florile mari de aproape 5 cm cresc în ciorchini de 4 până la 8 împreună.
