Arbust mare și dens ramificat, care se transformă într-un copac mic cu o coroană rotundă după mulți ani. Crește până la aproximativ 4 m înălțime și lățime. Dintre frunzele ovoidale inversate până la eliptice, mai ales lăstarii tineri sunt de culoare verde-albastră. Florile mari de aproximativ 10 cm, în formă de noduri, se deschid abia pe la sfârșitul lunii iunie/începutul lunii iulie. Acestea au un miros plăcut, proaspăt-acrișor, și sunt formate din nouă petale de un alb pur. Pistilul este verde, dar staminele sunt de culoare roz până la roșu închis și contrastează frumos cu florile albe. Varietate frumoasă din China, Coreea și Japonia. Potrivit ca arbore de parc și în grădini datorită caracterului său arbustiv.
