Magnolia ×loebneri "Merrill" provine dintr-o încrucișare între Magnolia kobus și Magnolia stellata. Acest hibrid are un port vertical al Magnoliei kobus și flori în formă de stea ale Magnoliei stellata. De obicei crește ca arbust, dar poate deveni un copac mic, uneori cu mai multe tulpini. Exemplarele tinere cresc încă puternic în poziție verticală, dar mai târziu obiceiul devine mai larg, deoarece ramurile se îndoaie din ce în ce mai mult. Lățimea finală depășește adesea înălțimea.
