Arbore de talie medie, cu coroana de la 5 până la 10 m, de formă piramidală până la ovoidală, cu o înălțime de 5 până la 10 m. Primele flori se deschid la jumătatea lunii mai, iar înflorirea durează aproximativ trei săptămâni. Florile au o dimensiune de 7,5-10 cm și sunt de culoare galben strălucitor. Ele se disting bine de frunzele de culoare verde deschis. Petalele sunt relativ late, ceea ce conferă florilor un aspect de lalea. A luat naștere în 1967 la Grădina Botanică din Brooklyn, New York, SUA, dintr-o încrucișare de M. x brooklynensis 'Evamaria' cu M. acuminata, dar nu a fost numită până în 1981.
