Arbust robust, în creștere, cu o înălțime de aproximativ 3 m și o lățime de 4 m, cu o coroană largă, în formă de evantai, dens ramificată. Prin natura sa, planta formează o coroană frumoasă și regulată. Frunzele ușor lucioase, de culoare verde închis, se transformă toamna în galben spre roșu deschis. În jurul lunii ianuarie/februarie se deschid florile mari de aproximativ 3,5 cm. Florile sunt de culoare roșu-maroniu-violaceu și nu sunt parfumate. Culoarea florilor este puțin mai deschisă decât la "Diane", iar copacul nu înflorește la fel de bogat în fiecare an. Atunci când au fost introduse cultivare nou denumite de H. x intermedia după cel de-al doilea război mondial, 'Ruby Glow' a fost prima cu flori roșii.
