Arbore mic, cu coroana mai mult sau mai puțin rotunjită și deschisă. Înălțime 6 - 8 m. Trunchiul este de culoare cenușie, cu caneluri puțin adânci. 'Rubylace' este un soi fără spini. Frunzele tinere răsar de un roșu-maroniu izbitor și se transformă din verde-bronz în verde în timpul verii. Este compus și simplu sau dublu-penat, iar frunzele individuale au aproximativ 2 cm.
