Arbore mare, columnar, înalt de 15 până la 20 m, cu ramuri principale în creștere abruptă. Crenguțele sunt maro deschis și netede, iar scoarța veche este gri-maronie și adânc canelată ulterior. Frunzele în formă de evantai, de formă tipică, sunt marca de fabrică a Ginkgo, la fel și a "Blagonului". Acestea au o lungime și o lățime de până la 10 cm. Toamna, frunzele devin de un galben auriu intens. Această selecție franceză are un port columnar mai mult sau mai puțin asemănător cu 'Princeton Sentry'. Numele soiului face referire la satul cu același nume din Bordeaux, unde a fost găsit copacul. Din motive comerciale și pentru că regulile de denumire nu permit ca un nume de cultivar să conțină un cuvânt latin (fastigiata), s-a ales denumirea comercială FASTIGIATA BLAGON, ceea ce arată că este un arbore columnar. De asemenea, poziția puternică a ramurilor ascendente face ca acest arbore să fie bine adaptat la străzile mai înguste.
