Soiul "Riversii" este un arbore cu creștere lentă, cu o coroană rotundă semitransparentă, cu o înălțime de 25-30 m și o lățime de 10-15 m. Frunzele ovale până la ovoidale sunt mai mari decât cele ale speciei. Acestea pot ajunge la o dimensiune de aproximativ 12 cm. Cel mai izbitor la "Riversii" sunt frunzele lucioase, de un negru-maroniu intens. Frunzele rămân colorate până toamna târziu și au o culoare mult mai constantă decât cele de la 'Purpurea'. Arborele este folosit în parcuri și alei. Preferă un sol calcaros, care să rețină umiditatea, dar bine drenat și bogat în humus.
