Fagus sylvatica "Dawyck" este un arbore subțire, columnar, cu ramificații drepte din care cresc crengi drepte. Ramificația începe jos pe trunchi. Este foarte stabil din punct de vedere dimensional și poate atinge o înălțime de 20 - 25 m și o lățime de aproximativ 3 m. Scoarța moale este netedă și de culoare gri. Frunzele ovale până la ovoidale sunt de culoare verde închis lucios și cresc până la o dimensiune de 4 - 10 cm. 'Dawyck' înflorește cu flori mici, discrete și mai puțin abundente decât F. sylvatica. Înflorirea este urmată de nuci mari de 10 - 20 mm, copacul nu este bogat decât mai târziu în viață.
