Originar ca varietate naturală de C. siliquastrum și originar din regiunea mediteraneană. Formă robustă de arbust care poate crește până la un arbore de dimensiuni mici sau medii, uneori cu mai multe tulpini. În forma de arbore, coroana este rotunjită. Frunzele rotunde sau în formă de rinichi sunt de culoare verde mediu. Florile apar chiar înainte de dezvoltarea frunzelor. Acestea sunt de culoare alb-crem până la alb murdar și apar în mănunchiuri compacte. Poate înflori foarte abundent ca arbore. Legumele rămân în copac toată iarna.
