Inițial, acest arbore crește cu o coroană de formă îngustă-piramidală, dar în cele din urmă formează o coroană ovoidală largă. 'Fastigiata' are o coroană foarte compactă și închisă, cu un trunchi principal perfect drept. Înălțime 15 - 18 m. În cele din urmă poate atinge o lățime de 15 m. Forma columnară este prezentă doar la o vârstă tânără. Uneori se găsesc exemplare care se ramifică de la sol și pot fi astfel tăiate anual.
