Arbore grațios de mărime medie, cu o coroană piramidală regulată. Scoarța se desprinde de la o vârstă fragedă. Scoarța mai bătrână este de culoare brun-portocalie-roz și se desprinde puternic. Frunzele de culoare verde închis devin toamna de un galben butier atractiv, iar frunzele rămân pe copac cu aproximativ o lună mai mult decât la B. nigra.
