Arbust larg la copac de dimensiuni medii, cu o coroană piramidală largă. Din cauza lățimii sale și a ramificației de început destul de joase, este un arbore care necesită spațiu. Este adesea confundat cu B. costata din cauza asemănării puternice, dar este totuși un tip de B. ermanii. Scoarța albă prezintă adesea o strălucire roșie, ceea ce explică denumirea de cultivar "Blush". Datorită acestei culori extrem de frumoase a trunchiului, este un arbore de parc frumos, care merită plantat atât solitar, cât și în grupuri. Frunza este fermă și are o margine a frunzei regulat dublu zimțată. Este mai mare decât la B. ermanii 'Holland, iar culoarea de toamnă este un galben izbitor. Arborele se înrădăcinează superficial, cu un sistem radicular fin ramificat și foarte multe rădăcini păroase. Sensibil la vânt (de mare).
