Amelanchier alnifolia "Obelisk" este un arbore mic, de obicei nu depășește 3,5 m. Frunzele de formă larg eliptică până la aproape rotundă devin ușor bronzate, dar vara sunt verde închis. Toamna devin gălbui cu ușor roșu. Pe la jumătatea lunii aprilie, florile alb-crem se deschid în ciorchini scurți și erecți. Florile individuale au o dimensiune de 1,5- 2 cm. Ele pot fi urmate de fructe comestibile, relativ mari, de culoare negru-violet. Înălțimea redusă și obiceiul său columnar îl fac ideal pentru utilizarea pe străzile înguste, în zonele rezidențiale și în grădini. Amelanchier are puține cerințe față de sol, dar crește cel mai bine în soluri calcaroase.
