Alnus glutinosa "Pyramidalis" este un arbore de talie medie, cu ramuri mai drepte, deci semnificativ mai îngust decât A. glutinosa. Frunzele cresc până la 10 cm, sunt invers ovale cu vârful rotunjit și sunt mai rotunde decât la A. glutinosa. Mugurii cu tulpină care au culoarea gri-violet și frunzele tinere sunt lipicioase la atingere (glutinosa=sticky). Toamna, frunzele rămân mult timp pe copac. Înflorirea constă în ghiocei femelei ovale și discrete, cu o lungime de ± 5 mm și ghiocei masculi galben-maronii, cu o lungime de ± 7 cm.
