Acer rubrum 'Sun Valley' este o selecție cu creștere puternică din Arboretul Național al SUA, cu o coroană ovală. Arborele a fost selectat în cadrul unui program de încrucișare al cărui scop era obținerea unei rezistențe mai mari la cicadele pitice ("leafhoppers"). Provine dintr-o încrucișare între A. rubrum 'Red Sunset' și 'Autumn Flame'. Frunzele de culoare verde închis devin roșu intens toamna. Foarte potrivit ca arbore de bulevard, de stradă și de parc. De asemenea, excelent pentru utilizarea de-a lungul aleilor etc. În soluri calcaroase, creșterea va stagna. Pe acest sol, precum și pe solul foarte uscat, culoarea de toamnă va fi mai puțin intensă. Toleranță slabă la vânt (de mare).
