Acer rubrum "Scanlon" este un arbore de talie medie, cu coroana compactă și îngustă, columnară. Înălțimea este de 10-12 m. Lățimea este de aproximativ 4 m. De obicei este puțin ramificat. Un bun arbore de stradă și de bulevard. Tulpina este cenușie, iar crengile tinere sunt brun-roșcate. Pețiolul frunzelor de culoare verde lucios, de până la 10 cm, de dimensiuni mari, este roșu.
