Acer platanoides 'Summershade' este o selecție americană cu o creștere viguroasă. Este un arbore sănătos, cu o ramură principală robustă. Coroana ovală până la piramidală poate avea o formă oarecum neregulată. Arborele poate atinge o înălțime de 15-20 m. Primăvara, frunza este de culoare bronzată, devenind mai târziu verde deschis. La atingere este ușor coroiată. Florile de culoare galben-verzuie apar înainte de dezvoltarea frunzelor. În plină înflorire, copacul este un adevărat vestitor al primăverii.
