Abies veitchii este un conifer mare, cu o coroană piramidală dreaptă și îngustă, care poate atinge peste 25 m înălțime. Coroana are o formă regulată. Crenguțele tinere sunt de culoare brun-roșiatică până la verde-maronie, iar scoarța este cenușie și netedă. Ușoare la atingere, acele au o lungime de 1,5 până la 3 cm, de culoare verde închis lucios în partea superioară. Pe partea inferioară a acelor sunt vizibile două dungi stomatice de un alb pur. Acele sunt implantate în formă de perie în jurul vârfului crenguței și sunt întotdeauna îndreptate în față. Conurile conice înguste sunt de culoare albastru-violet. Numele speciei se referă la John Gould Veitch, care a fondat celebra pepinieră Veitch. El a "descoperit" această specie în 1861 pe Muntele Fuji, Japonia. Conifer grațios, cu un ac de culoare verde intens, potrivit pentru utilizarea în parcuri și grădini mari. Crește în orice sol nutritiv, bine drenat, neutru sau ușor acid.
