Soiul "Sapporo Autumn Gold" formează un copac vertical cu o coroană în formă de vază. Trunchiul este inițial neted și gri-argintiu, devenind mai târziu gri-negru închis și canelat. Frunzele au o lungime de 3 până la 8 cm și o formă ovală. Primăvara înmugurește ușor roșiatic, iar vara este de un verde închis strălucitor. Oarecum în funcție de locație și temperatură, frunzele devin galben-aurii toamna. Florile apar înainte de dezvoltarea frunzelor și sunt dispuse în mănunchiuri dense.
