O cultură olandeză rezultată din încrucișarea a două răsaduri care combină U. glabra "Exoniensis", U. hollandica "Bea Schwarz" și U. wallichiana, derivată din Himalaya. Formează un arbore cu creștere dreaptă, cu ramuri laterale care se extind oblic. În tinerețe, este îngust columnar, dar mai târziu devine larg piramidal. Lățimea este de 4 până la 5 m. Este un arbore viguros, formând o coroană foarte densă cu ramuri scurte și foarte apropiate. Frunzele aspre, destul de mici, sunt de culoare verde închis, plictisitoare, cu nervuri dense și cu marginea frunzei dublu zimțată. Când se desface, este de culoare bronz. Rămâne pe o perioadă lungă de timp, adesea până la sfârșitul lunii noiembrie. Remarcabili sunt mugurii de frunze de culoare brun-roșcată deschisă. 'Lobel' are o rezistență rezonabilă la boala olandeză a ulmului. Datorită rezistenței sale bune la vântul de mare, este foarte potrivit pentru plantarea în provinciile de coastă.
