Acest copac formează o coroană ovoidală destul de densă, care mai târziu devine mai rotundă. Frunzele impare și penate constau din 9 -17 (21) foliole lanceolate. Acestea au o lungime de 5 - 7 cm, o lățime de 2 - 3 cm și o margine a frunzei fin zimțată. Culoarea de toamnă este roșu-portocaliu. Corimbii de flori mari, asemănători cu pâsla, sunt compuși din multe flori albe. Fructele galben-portocalii, cu diametrul de aproximativ 1 cm, apar încă din august și rămân pe copac până în jurul jumătății lunii septembrie. Fructificarea este mai puțin numeroasă decât la alte soiuri. 'Schouten' preferă solurile ușor acide, bogate în humus, dar se dezvoltă bine și pe soluri uscate și nisipoase.
