Arbore mare, cu o coroană ovoidală largă, cu o înălțime de aproximativ 15 m și o lățime de 10 m. Crengile tinere sunt de culoare verde măsliniu, uneori ușor înroșite. Scoarța veche este brun-cenușie și are caneluri longitudinale. Frunzele de formă larg eliptică până la ovală sunt adânc lobate în formă de pană, cu lobii incizați pe jumătate din limbul foliar.
