Conifer de talie medie, cu frunze caduce, cu înălțimea de până la 12 m, dar în natură poate ajunge la peste 30 m. Pseudolarix înseamnă "Larix fals", iar copacul seamănă și el cu Larix, dar are o coroană net mai largă. Ramurile principale care stau pe orizontală formează mai întâi o coroană ovoidală largă și mai târziu o coroană rotundă. Crenguțele tinere sunt de culoare galben pal și mai târziu devin maro-violet. Scoarța veche este brun-roșiatică până la brun-cenușie și canelată. Acele moi sunt dispuse în spirale de 10 până la 20 pe lăstari scurți. Sunt de un verde strălucitor și devin galben auriu intens înainte de a cădea toamna. Conurile sunt mai mult sau mai puțin rotunde și de culoare galben-maronie.
