Prunus sargentii este un arbore foarte frumos, cu o coroană largă în formă de vază. Uneori se găsește și ca arbust robust. Înălțime 8 - 12 m. Scoarța este brună închisă și lucioasă. Frunzele sunt ovoidale inversate, cu vârful ascuțit, de circa 6 - 12 cm. Bronz la înmugurire, mai târziu verzi și se termină toamna cu o frumoasă culoare roșu-portocalie. Flori în buchete de 2 - 4 împreună, simple și de culoare roz pal. Apar în aprilie, înainte de frunziș. Urmate de câteva fructe de culoare roșu închis, consumate de păsări. Zona de rezistență: 5b Prunus sargentii este atractiv primăvara, cu florile și frunzele sale de culoare roșu-maronie care se desfășoară. Toamna, copacul fură spectacolul cu culorile de toamnă înflăcărate.
