Un copac izbitor, cu o coroană ovală până la rotundă, destul de densă, care adesea crește ușor sinuos. Înălțimea sa este de aproximativ 6 - 8 m. Scoarța lucioasă este de culoare maro închis până la maro-violet. Crengile tinere sunt de culoare roșu închis. Frunza este ovală până la ovală și are o lungime de aproximativ 8 cm. Este de culoare roșu-maroniu închis și își păstrează culoarea până toamna târziu. Înflorire foarte bogată, cu flori simple de culoare roz.
